Ace the Interview

  • Research - Know the company and its needs. Be prepared to discuss how you will contribute to the company:
    1. What is the company's specialty.
    2. Who are their clients (past & present)?
    3. What is their target market?
    4. Know about the department you will be working in.
    5. Know their competitors. What are their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Resume & List of References - Bring additional copies of your resume and references printed on high quality paper.
  • Pen and Paper - You may need to take notes and (or) write down the names and contact information of the people you meet with.
  • Appearance - Dress appropriately. Look professional:
    suit with a tie and matching shoes. Pant suit or skirt.
    Keep facial hair neat and trimmed. Make sure your naval is covered.
    Cover up tattoos and remove piercing's. No tongue rings! Cover up tattoos and remove excessive piercing's. No tongue rings!

  • Shaking Hands - This one can be tricky. If they seem open to shaking hands, offer a firm handshake. If they are sitting behind a desk and seem uncomfortable with shaking hands; don't.
  • Do Not Arrive Late - Arrive 15 minutes early.
  • Bring Your Portfolio - Bring a print version and high quality copies to leave with company. You can also bring a copy of your digital portfolio.
  • Send a Thank You Note - Make sure to send a thank you note within 24 hours to all of the people you interview with. Personalize the letter and elaborate on your desire to work for the company.
